Declare Your Independence from the Duopoly

Independents are the largest group of voters: news.gallup.com/poll

On Flag Day, 6/14/2023, there was a More Voices, More Choices noon rally at the North Carolina State Capital in Raleigh where representatives of 6 independent parties made their case for being included in the democratic process. The We The People party of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was joined by the Libertarian, Green, Constitution, Forward, and Justice For All parties in voicing their frustration about efforts to block ballot access as reported by Kyle Ingram in the News and Observer on 6/5/2024.

The Green Party had been previously targeted by the NC Democratic Party in 2022, and this year it has been Clear Choice Action, an organization run by former Democratic Party operatives, that has been aggressively seeking to undermine the Kennedy and Cornel West ballot initiatives by contacting petition signers about withdrawing their signatures. Both campaigns have collected thousands more than the required 13,865 signatures, but recognition by the State Board of Elections has thus far been withheld.

Similar assaults on the democratic process with regard to 3rd parties have been launched around the country including reports of fake signature gathering by Democratic Party saboteurs in New York. These desperate attempts come at a time when a Gallup poll showed that 43% of voters identify as Independent, compared to 27% each for the Democratic and Republican parties, a gap that has been increasing steadily since 2008. This trend is a major threat to the entrenched two-party duopoly.

This stagnant and corrupt system results in “limited representation, lack of choice, polarization, gridlock and partisan politics, limited innovation and new ideas, and perpetuation of the status quo.” In his March announcement of Nicole Shanahan as his running mate, Kennedy framed the duopoly as the “Trump/Biden Uniparty that has captured and appropriated our democracy and turned it over to Blackrock, State Street, Vanguard, and their other corporate donors.”

In the recent CNN debate, the duopoly was in peak dysfunctional form pitting “the con man against the old man” in a pathetic clown show that was a national embarrassment in front of the whole world. The only moments of sanity were provided by Kennedy in The Real Debate held in parallel simultaneously on X to an audience of over 5 million viewers concluding with: “I’m going to unravel the war machine. I’m going to unravel the corrupt merger of state and corporate power.”

He critiqued both Biden and Trump: “This is a moral battle for the soul of our nation to restore our moral authority around the world by projecting economic power abroad rather than spending $8 trillion on regime change wars that have left every nation we’ve touched worse off than we found it and restoring our moral authority here at home.” They are two wings on the same bird which crashed to earth and shattered on live mainstream TV for all to see as depicted in the Power of Three video.

Here is his prescription for declaring our independence: “So how are we going to win against the established Washington interests? It’s not through playing the game by the corrupt rules that the corrupt powers and the vested interests have rigged to keep us all in their thrall. Instead, we’re going to have to rewrite the assumptions and change the habits of American politics. We’re going to tap into a mighty surge of people power, and reclaim an honest, peaceful, just, and prosperous America.”
