ITEOTWAWKI: Tapping Like It’s 1929!

Referencing 2 famous songs in one title is a bit over the top, but extreme times like these require extraordinary measures to free us from our limiting beliefs. R. E. M.’s It’s the End of the World as We Know It was released in 1987, the year also infamous for the Black Monday stock market crash. Prince’s 1999 was released in 1982, but became the party theme song for the Y2K millennium apocalypse that fortunately turned out to be a nothing burger.

It doesn’t look like we are going to be so lucky this time around, as the black swan event of COVID-19 has triggered a perfect storm to collapse the global financial house of cards that has been inflated out of control since 2009. Many of our parents and grandparents lived through the 1929 Crash and Great Depression, so we likely have inherited genetic memories of extreme panic that are being reactivated and amplified by the media doomsday machine.

Ninety years ago tapping would have likely been a reference to Fred Astaire and other popular tap dancers of that era, but in 2020 it is now the popular term for Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). The 12th Annual Tapping World Summit just concluded last week with over 600,000 people online learning this powerful antidote to fear and anxiety which now has over 50 randomized controlled trials demonstrating its effectiveness.

Fear of the stock market collapse and getting sick are just two of the many reasons to be anxious that are worth tapping on. Breakdown of the economic system raises concerns about food scarcity and increased crime. Hospitals may be overwhelmed, and businesses may close their doors with some never recovering and many losing their jobs. Martial law, loss of freedom and forced mandatory vaccines are also potential future anxieties.

The Catch 22 of all these cumulative stresses is that they undermine your immune system and make you more susceptible to infection by the virus. So, in addition to taking your cod liver oil for vitamins A and D, consuming as much vitamin C as possible, and bolstering your immune system with medicinal herbs and mushrooms, you will want to delete the scary files that are stored in your brain’s limbic system like malware programs.

An example of how fear can be paralyzing comes from one of my coaching clients who was a Fed Ex manager with a fear of flying. Unfortunately, his story shared disturbing similarities with Tom Hanks’ character in Castaway, as his travel to meetings on cargo planes would often entail flying through storms with terrible turbulence. Using EFT he was able to tap his way through his worst fears and learn to fly with confidence again.

Limiting beliefs can negatively impact your ability to attract abundance during this time of scarcity. Learning tapping in my Zoom class on 3/19/20 can aid you in erasing the writing on your walls related to your ancestors’ past experiences. Difficult emotions can also be trapped in your body resulting in psychosomatic physical symptoms such as shoulder and neck pain which I will be addressing with EFT in an upcoming free online course later in April.

Beyond frightening scarcity issues and symptoms of illness, death is the ultimate fear that we all face. The most effective way I know of overcoming that anxiety is to immerse yourself in the comforting wisdom of the Spiritual Alphabet Soup of Death and Dying: NDEs, ADCs, SDEs, and NDA. These messages of hope and unconditional love provide a higher perspective and expanded worldview to get us through the worst of times.

During a crisis, a time-tested way of getting guidance is to pay attention to your dreams. Nightmares may serve to warn you of the best course of action for the future, so keep a dream diary as recommended in my book Dreams that Can Save Your Life. My coaching clients find it useful to combine dreamwork with tapping to heal physical problems as well as to clear blocks to abundance. Trust the process, as there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
